Invitation

SMS US Conference
?History of Mathematics?

Szczyrk, 9th - 11th November 2007 r.

We kindly invite all interested to participate in another outgoing session of the Students' Mathematical Society US. This fall's meeting's topic is History of Mathematics. 1st and 2nd year students are especially welcome.

Some organisational info:
  1. The conference will take place in a holiday resort in Szczyrk at Olimpijska 56.

To get there: a train to Bielsko -> a bus to Szczyrk (going for Salmopol or the White Cross), we get out at the Szczyrk - Wodospad bus stop (third one after the centre of Szczyrk) and we walk for 10 minutes. And one can read from the map how to walk:
If someone is doubtful whether he'll get there by himself, please mail us at knm@knm.katowice.pl. Some days before the trip (when we know exactly who will go) we will designate some „guide".
  2. If you want to participate in the conference, you can tell it to any member of the Society; one can find us almost everywhere, but the quickest way is to go to the room no. 524, to which we heartily invite everyone. Eventually you can mail us at grzegorzjanbartosz@wp.pl.
  3. Talks: we encourage everyone to give a short talk on the topic above. Propositions of topics may be found at en.knm.katowice.pl/index.php.
  4. We will end the trip on Sunday at 13 o'clock. We are not planning a dinner on that day, because it would be difficult to make it, but we suspect no one will leave us hungry ;)
  5. The cost of food is 40 zł. We collect the money in Szczyrk.
  6. We get the dishes, bedding and bed in Szczyrk. However some people like to have their own mug (quite practical); moreover, we hope that we will have sufficiently many beds. In case we have more participants, those who applied first will get the beds and the rest will have to take carimats (those so unlucky will be notified by email).

ATTENTION!!! Participation in the conference DOES NOT oblige you to give a talk (but we encourage to do so - it's a very rewarding experience).

  1. The birth of set theory
  2. Galois the Genius
  3. Cantor's set
