We are beginning a new cycle of meetings, where we will consider the Banach algebras and spectral theory. Our purpose will be to motivate and introduce some intuitions regarding C* algebras and a general version of the spectral theorem. During the first meeting we will introduce the notions of a normed algebra and a Banach algebra along with numerous examples and general constructions for normed algebras.
